Candies & Confections Bake-Off

The theme of the latest monthly installment of our Bake-Off at work was Candies & Confections. I busted out a classic Christmas favorite, Peppermint Bark.

This creamy, crunchy, minty, chocolaty creation is not just for Christmas anymore.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound (8 ounces) chopped dark Ghirardelli chocolate

  • 1/2 pound (8 ounces) chopped milk Ghirardelli chocolate

  • 1/2 teaspoon (or more to taste) peppermint extract

  • 1 pound (16 ounces) chopped white Ghirardelli chocolate

  • 3/4 cup chopped candy canes or peppermints

Directions
1. Line an 11 x 17 inch baking sheet or two 9 x 13 inch pans with parchment paper.

2. Melt dark and milk chocolate in the top of a double boiler over lightly boiling water, stirring constantly. Stir in 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon of peppermint extract.

3. Spread chocolate evenly onto the prepared sheet, using a spatula. Chill until set, about 1 hour.

4. Melt white chocolate in the top of a double boiler over lightly boiling water, stirring constantly. Stir in 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon of peppermint extract, then add crushed candy canes/pepermints and stir to combine.

5. Spread white chocolate mixture over chilled dark chocolate, spreading to the edge of the pan with a spatula.

6. Chill until set, about four hours or overnight. Refrigerate until just before serving, then break into pieces and serve.

Fight at the Allston Rock City Prom

Soon after this photo was taken, D'Agnes and Liszewski threw martini glasses at each other and shouted profanities until the Common Ground bouncer broke it up.

Who wore it best?

The List #3:: Sassy Sandals

How sassy is this little number from Aldo? For $40, I think they're a necessity for the summer.

The Streets is TONIGHT 10pm on the corner of Glenville and Allston

Although JC Chasez has a serious case of diarrhea of the mouth, and you could take a shot out of Mario Lopez's dimples, America's Best Dance Crew is the second best hour of the week (following the hour of Lost, which just so happens to be the hour before on Thursday nights at 9pm).

I just voted 10 million times on MTV.com for Status Quo, the crew from our very own Dirty Dot. There are obvi the best. Check it:

More on JC and Mario's utter cheesiness, just look at JC Chasez. This is honestly a stock photo on MTV.com. Ew, yuck.

And Mario Lopez, where to even begin...

I did always love Zack Attack with the horrendous voice overs and fake instrument-playing. Who am I kidding, I still love it.

Crazy old bag lady or sexy beach bum?

You never know what's under a big floppy sun hat. Is it an old lady who suns herself daily outside her retirement community in Miami, a chemotherapy patient, or a celebrity hiding behind gaudy designer shades? Or maybe a bag-lady-ano-celebrity Mary-Kate Olsen.

From Urban Outfitters, these both are $42. Maybe if I can find one for around $20, I can justify the obnoxiousness of it. This is totes staying in the top 10.

Let's start from the beginning

The pink romper really started it all. My roommate, Katie, owns a baby pink velour onzie.

And I obviously covet it.

My number one item for my post-Lent shopping spree is going to be Victoria's Secret's Beach Sexy Cover-Up Romper in watermelon.

I can just imagine sipping a drink out of a coconut while lounging on a chaise lounge on the front lawn of my gated community while sporting this little number. Oh, it is going to be a glorious summer.

THE List

Move over, Josh Hartnett. That lame 40 days of celibacy is nothing compared to this girl's 40 days. To cope, I've started a list. I've compiled 10 items I think I should purchase after the day of bonnets, brunches, and Cadbury cream eggs.

The basic idea of this exercise is to discover that, in the end, I don't really need these things. After more than a month of mulling it over, I will realize how petty and foolish I have been to love material things so dearly. ha ha... doubtful.

Here is the list so far:

  1. Pink Onzie/Romper

  2. Big-ass sun hat

  3. Sassy flip flops

  4. Deep V Hipster T

  5. J. Crew Sundress

  6. Cinch Belt

  7. Prep-tastic Shorts

  8. Sidekick

  9. Reeboks with the straps

  10. Obnoxiously large Chanel Sunglasses

Each item will be further scrutinized in future posts. Good day to you.

The Search for the perfect sneaker

So, I gave up shopping for Lent. I know, what ever will I do with all the time and money I will have saved during this 40 days? Well, I'm spending most of my time researching what I will buy post-Easter (no, researching is not shopping) and I'm saving most of my money for use on said researched purchases.

First on the to-buy list is sneakers. Reeboks with the straps? Air Force Ones? Rainbow Adidas? Or a custom design?? The possibilities are endless. The current front-runners include:

Nike Air Indee

Adidas Missy Game 2
